Business etiquette

According to constructmaterials, English is widely used as a business language in India. There are many English-speaking interpreters and translation agencies. Indian business people are extremely hospitable to visitors. It is common to exchange business cards; the business card should be presented to the Indian business partner with both hands. The best months for business travel are October through March and accommodation should be booked in advance.

Phone

The country code is 0091. The leading provider Airtel offers a good service. Fixed and mobile networks also exist in more remote areas, but sometimes with restrictions. Fees are lower than in Europe, but internet services are more expensive. Public telephones are mostly used with cards that are sold at kiosks or electrical goods stores. International calls can be made from telephone cafes. Skype is also a great way to keep in touch with home.

Cellphone

GSM 900/1800. Apart from a few national parks, the transmission / reception range for mobile communications covers almost the entire country. International roaming contracts exist. You can also purchase Indian prepaid cards. Tourists entering on an electronic visa will receive a free SIM card.

Internet

Internet provider is among others Narmada (Internet: www.narmada.net.in). Internet cafes are available nationwide. Many hotels and, increasingly, Internet cafés offer wireless access to the Internet via Wi-Fi.

Post Office

Airmail to Europe takes about a week. Postage stamps are also often sold in hotels.

Radio

No alcohol may be sold within 500 m of national roads.

Hotels

There are modern hotels of international standing in all major cities and holiday resorts. In general, first class European and Indian cuisine is served. The well-known hotel chain Taj Group offers first-class accommodation in its 8 luxury hotels as well as in its various well-equipped business hotels. Some so-called palace hotels as well as leisure facilities in breathtaking scenery and hotels in regions of cultural importance also belong to this international chain. The prices are low compared to many other countries. Usually 10% service and 7-15% luxury tax are charged.

Other accommodation options

Are practical and inexpensive bases for organized tours, hiking and mountaineering. The approx. 20 hostels of the Ministry of Tourism are spread over all regions and ideally located to explore both the lowlands and mountain stations (the best places to relax during the hot summer months). Each hostel has about 40 beds in separate dormitories. Mattresses, bed linen, blankets, lockable cupboards, sockets, communal kitchens and parking spaces are available.
